Mainland China's Hardliners:
These old dinosaurs think that restricting freedoms whether it's religious and/or political is the wave of the future. Their policies on isolating the peace loving nation of Taiwan (where I was born) from the world really pi$$e$ me off. Those tyrants have already conquered Tibet, Hong Kong, and Macau. They don't think that's enough until they ruin the lives of 23 million Taiwanese people. Do you want to guess who was one of the original founders of the United Nations in 1945? It was The Republic Of China (ROC) of course which is now in Taiwan since the Communist Revolution overthrew them in 1949. Under pressure from People's Republic of China (PRC) to the UN, The ROC was forced to give up its seat on October 25, 1971. The UN has no policy on only one China, that was Peking's (Beijing's) policy. During the Cold War both East and West Germany each had a seat in the UN and so did North and South Korea but WHY NOT TAIWAN? Taiwan has dramatically changed from a third world police nation in 1949 to being one of the Four Asian Tigers and the first "Chinese Democracy" which are one of the greatest accomplishments in world history.
The UN should wake up and realize that 23 million (probably the biggest amount of) people still aren't represented in the UN. The UN just pretends that PRC represents these missing 23 million Taiwanese and I think that is bogus, fraud, sham, etc. Taiwan qualifies in every respect to be represented in the UN, especially as a friendly, democratic and prosperous nation. When the Taliban ran Afghanistan, they weren't kicked out of the UN even though the extreme hard line Taliban government was recognized by only two countries (Pakistan and Saudi Arabia). The only thing that stands in the way of etc. Taiwan joining the UN is PRC. I just can't wait for the day that these old PRC Communist dinosaurs start to die off and maybe the younger generation (especially the ones who demonstrated at Tiananmen Square in May/June 1989) would become the new leaders of PRC and resume the "Wind of Change" that seemed to have stalled after Europe's Communist Governments toppled like dominoes.
I wish for once that a high ranked PRC Government member would publicly state that PRC should leave Taiwan alone and let the Taiwanese people decide their destiny. They all seem to repeat the same God d*** rhetoric like lemmings that Taiwan is a (so called) renegade province and that PRC would never renounce the use of force to "take back" Taiwan. I would like to repeat again that Taiwan has NEVER been ruled by PRC, not even for a single day. Great Britain should have recognized The ROC instead of PRC. Why? Then it would have been much less painful for them to handover The free, Democratic Hong Kong to The free, Democratic ROC than to Communist PRC. The same goes for Portugal with Macau.
When NATO led by The United States accidently bombed PRC's Embassy in Belgrade, Yugoslavia (now Serbia) on May 7, 1999, demonstrators in Peking retaliated by throwing rocks at the American Embassy. I told my dad that as a response the American embassy should move back to Taiwan! I know that the Taiwanese people are definitely more appreciative of the American embassy than the Chinese.
I am also sick and tired that Taiwan can't represent themselves as Taiwan but under the "Chinese Taipei" banner in the Olympics and Miss Universe Pageant. PRC has no right to do this to Taiwan. Heck, do you see Puerto Rico go to the Olympics as "American San Juan"? Remember PRC does NOT and NEVER even for a single day rule over Taiwan even though they still like to pretend they do by having a dummy Taiwan province representative (Taiwan has stopped pretending since 1991). Puerto Rico is an US territory but do you see the US Government throw a hissy fit? NOOOOOOOO!

The Taiwanese Delegation do have lobbyists in Washington, DC promoting awareness for Taiwan Independence thru the Formosan Association for Public Affairs (FAPA). You can show your support by joining FAPA, wearing a "TAIWANATION" gel bracelet and/or putting a "TW" bumper sticker on your vehicle.
Solicitors/Telemarketers:
This is one career besides garbage collecting that I will never want to be in. I don't like to verbally bother people. Solicitors include door to door salespeople and telemarketers include those so called "courtesy calls".
Ever notice that Telemarketers (a.k.a. phone solicitors) use almost the same phrases? I can never seem to catch the proper time to say "NO" until it is almost too late and they never say "Are you interested?" in their sales pitch. They all assume that you want their stuff.
One partial solution is when nobody's home, my answering machine would pick up the phone and say "Hello? (wait 3 seconds) Sorry we can't come to the phone right now. If this is a courtesy call, please call us back when we win the lottery! (If that will ever happen and even if it does, we would be changing our phone numbers!) Otherwise please leave your message after the beep. Thank you."
I have a very good excuse for the door to door solicitors. Sometimes when I work dayshift, I get these shirt and tie people who solicit the businesses in the daytime with their junk that's ALWAYS made in China. I tell them that I'm from Taiwan (I am, really!) and refuse to buy junk made by cheap prison laborers from a country that doesn't embrace democracy and human rights. I have too many bad experiences with their junk like a solar powered radio that conked out after a few days.
People who don't know how to set the VCR clock/timer:
How hard can it be? They need to just take the time to read the simple instructions. We brought a new VCR to my uncle in Taiwan who speaks poor English and even he could set the VCR clock and timer so there's just no excuse for the perpetual blinking 12:00!
People who who take things for granted:
(topic to be expanded)
Hypocrites:
This includes people who pushed to raise the drinking age to 21 while they themselves were drinking when they were 18, Limousine Liberals, NIMBYs (Not In My Back Yarders) who oppose casinos near their neighborhoods while they patronized casinos in other people's neighborhoods, NIMBYs who oppose cellular towers near their neighborhoods while they are cellular phone subscribers and bitch and complain why they are getting crappy signal strength, and leaders of the free world who support Communist China over Democratic Taiwan.
Supermarket shopping cart thieves:
This one really gets my goat! If you want to borrow a shopping cart, that's fine with me. You should at least have the decency to bring it back the next time you go back to shop! I'm sick and tired of seeing shopping carts scattered all over apartment complexes and increasing due to a few selfish shoppers. When I first immigrated here in 1978 and eventually lived on our own in 1979 we didn't yet have an automobile. I was getting tired of carrying groceries (in paper bags back then) walking back to our apartment and wished that my mom would borrow a shopping cart. She told me that we are decent people and that we don't do this kind of selfish act. I could go on and on about this.
Criminals:
They don't give a damn about ruining their community especially the drug dealing thugs committing most of the murders. Enough said!
(There's more to come so don't forget to stop by often!)
